There is something so warm and inviting when you have your family’s portraits taken on a beach. Yes, I’m a photographer and this might sound self serving but I really feel it’s so important to take photographs of your family on a regular basis. It shows your children that you’re a part of the family and creates memories for a lifetime.
I remember when the little 3 year old decided it would be fun to do a dead man’s fall right into the surf and we had just started the session! His mother and I were shocked at first; and then we had a good laugh! The portrait session was over that was obvious. But, whenever his Mom looks at the photographs taken on that day; she will always remember what happened. And there are your memories for a lifetime!
I think we are getting away from displaying photographs and we are relying on saving them primarily on our computers or smart phones; and I’m guilty of this too! We forget to display them in our homes and on our walls.
I love looking at personal photos of my family and remembering how young my daughter was at a certain point in her life; or our little Golden Retriever Barkley (aptly named I might add) that grew into a moose! Time seems to go at a rapid pace when we have children in our lives; and capturing those memories in photographs is important.
Experts even tell us it’s important to have photos of our children and families on display and that it gives young children a sense of belonging to a family unit. “Photos should be displayed, because kids, who see themselves on view feel loved and valued.” Dr. David Kraus, Ph. D., Cleveland clinical psychologist.
So there you go, my thought for the day!
